Rayleigh, Kamloops Historical Facts

Rayleigh became part of Kamloops in 1973. It was formerly a municipality due to its location on the eastern side of the North Thompson River and south of Heffley Creek. Rayleigh Mount was a former post office located in the area, and the post office was named by W A Belcham, the first postmaster, after his hometown in England. His wife and son continued to operate the post office until the 40s when they relocated to Little Fort. Indigenous reservation land and the river separate Rayleigh and Heffley Creek from the rest of the city.
