Easily accessible from Highway 5a off Halston Ave, Westsyde is a quiet, kid-friendly community stretching along the western side of the North Thompson River, north of “North Kamloops” and east of “Batechor Heights”. The main access road to all streets is Westsyde Road, which runs parallel to the river. Although Westsyde Road continues north along the river, extending into agricultural and reserve land, the residential neighborhood ends at the Dunes Golf Course.
This area is relatively flat, with well-treed and mature yards. Many housing types are available, from mobile homes (in two different mobile home parks) to luxury estate homes lining the golf course. The Hamlets is an assisted living and residential care facility for seniors.
While there are homes lining the riverbank, a multi-use trail stretches to Westmount Elementary between some houses and the river. It originates at Riverside Park in South Kamloops. Because it follows the river, the paved pathway is relatively flat and amazing for walking, biking, rollerblading, and pushing strollers.
Westsyde is fortunate to have a year-round indoor community pool adjacent to its High School and Westsyde Centennial Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and pet owners. In addition to its many gravel trails, there is also a small petting zoo, very popular with young families. (It’s free, but you pay for food from machines or bring your own apples and carrots!). Also in the park are lacrosse fields, an outdoor rink, tennis courts, a waterpark, and slow-pitch fields.
